Poiesz devised a series of nine 'art door pushers' in different combinations in the refurbished Dutch Intercity trains. The theme is 'exiled or forbidden objects' that symbolizes safety, vandalism, behavior and consume. The artist plays with the idea of ​​how these functions of objects may change over time. The color "gold" is chosen radiating luxury and comfort.The series consists of nine items: ashtray, disposable chips tray, batons, emergency button, keyboard, bubble gum, aerosol can, speaker and phone. Kunstenaar Onno Poiesz bedacht een serie van negen 'kunstdeurduwers' die in verschillende combinaties in de trein te zien zullen zijn. Thema is 'verbannen of verboden' voorwerpen, die begrippen als veiligheid, vandalisme, gedrag en consumeren symboliseren. De kunstenaar speelt hiermee met de gedachte hoe functies van voorwerpen kunnen veranderen in de loop der tijd. De tint 'goud' is hierbij en weloverwogen keuze, omdat deze luxe en comfort moet uitstralen. De serie bestaat uit negen voorwerpen in deze trant: asbak, patatbak, wapenstok, noodknop, toetsenbord, bubbelkauwgom, spuitbus, geluidsspeaker en telefoon. Although in many respect they represent a leap from his well-known airplane series, “Confessional Booths” continue the artist’s inquiry into everyday objects’ temporary purpose. As news outlets and television programs stream live offerings of remorse over immoral behavior, ranging from celebrities’ shameful confessions through the Catholic Church’s public apology for priests’ misconduct, television has become synonymous with society’s modernized confessional booth for Poiesz. The settings of this creative period at the Kohler center provided fertile grounds for the fusion of his fascination with the subject matter and his interest in discarded material. Molds available at the factory lent themselves as the perfect match for Poiesz’s search for forms already in existence. Transforming ceramic-based sanitary equipment - including urinals and sinks originally intended for hospital, prison, or handicapped use - through various depths of interaction with the material while still in a malleable wet state, Poiesz’s working process translated into the creation of anonymizing mask-like shields that serve as two-sided confessional booths, intended as functional items. The resulting undulating shapes intertwine in a dynamic way, reflective of the complex network of communication channels. The white finish of the material and the original function of the objects produced by Kohler augment the effect of the artist’s commentary about the cleansing process.
